The Chinese civil aviation industry has accomplished total turnover volume of 35.38 billion ton-kilometers in the first six months of 2014, up 11.1% over the same period last year, according to statistics released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

Passenger throughput totaled 186 million, a year-on-year growth of 10.7%, while cargo and mail traffic reached 2.79 million, an increase of 6.0% from a year earlier.

The growth rate remains almost unchanged compared with the same period last year.

China's Top 10 Busiest Airports

According to the CAAC's statistics, the list of China's top 10 busiest airports remains the same as last year, with just a little bit of changes to the ranks of some airports.

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG) has registered a growth of 17.1% in passenger traffic to 14.06 million in the first half of 2014, surpassing Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY)'s 13.65 million to be China's 8th busiest airport.

In the first half, the airports in west China have registered a faster growth than those in east China.

In addition, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN) handled up to 10.29 million passengers in the first half, bringing the number of airports serving more than 10 million passengers to 11.

Among the top 10 busiest airports, Chongqing reported the fastest growth, followed by Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH), with a growth of 15.5%. Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) had the slowest growth, with 1.9%.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) transported up to 43.22 million passengers altogether in the first six months, surpassing Beijing for the first time, which served about 41.58 million passengers.
